After Iowa
Terry Mulligan has been a busy Hawkeye since graduating from the University of Iowa in 1968. Terry graduated with a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education while receiving a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army. After serving two years on active duty, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service in Europe. Upon completion of his service, he started his career with American Hospital Supply Corporation, which later merged with Baxter International. Terry spent 26 years with Baxter International, retiring in 1996 as the Group Vice-President and member of the Senior Management and Operating Management committees.
Terry has spent the last 11 years as a Founding Director and Vice-Chairman of MedAssets, Inc., as well as giving of his time, talent and treasure to the world around him. Terry spent 7 years as a member of the University of Iowa Alumni Association Executive Board, including a term as President in 1994, and is currently a Wellmark Board Member. He has received numerous recognitions for his contributions to society, including the 1996 State of Iowa Outstanding Individual Volunteer Award and the 2001 University of Iowa Distinguished Alumni Award for Service.
Terry’s affiliation with the University of Iowa didn’t stop at graduation. He has spent 42 years married to wife, Susan, who earned her bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Iowa in 1967. Terry and Susan’s oldest son, Daniel, earned his Juris Doctor with High Distinction from the Iowa College of Law in 1996, while their youngest son , Jim, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1996 after 4 years as a UI Men’s Swimming letter winner. Jim was Captain of the University of Iowa Men's Swimming Team and an All-American. The Mulligan’s currently have 5 grandchildren, all of whom might someday become Hawkeyes.
Terry and Susan are very thankful for all the University of Iowa has provided their family, and have been extremely generous in return, most notably through their gift to establish the first endowed athletic scholarship for the UI Men’s Swimming and Diving team in early 2010. This gift represents their second endowed scholarship, coming four years after their donation of the first fully-funded Football scholarship by a former football letter winner. There is no telling what might come of these great opportunities for future Hawkeyes, but the current indication is very positive -- the 2009 recipient of the Terry and Susan Mulligan Football Scholarship was Adrian Clayborn, 2010 Fed-Ex Orange Bowl MVP.
